Templates - changing the design & colors of your board

bbv2's advanced Templates features allow you to make your board look completely unique - you can change almost anything you see around the board. Furthermore, you can have individual templates for the main board, each forum, and even specify seperate templates for individual pages if you so wish. For example, you could have a certain template for when a user is viewing a thread in a certain forum, another one for when they're viewing the who's online list, and another for when they are performing any action in a specified forum.

Additionally, the Templates system supports ``Template Sets''. This feature allows you to create multiple different styles of template, and allow the user to choose which one they want to use.

By default, your board has 2 templates in the Default set - an all-purpose template for all normal pages, and a ``popup'' template - for small popup pages.

Editing a template

  1. To edit an existing template, open your board's Admin Area, and click on the ``Edit Templates'' button.
  2. You will be presented with the templates in the Default Template Set. If you have created an additional Set, and wish to edit a template from it, choose the ``Edit'' button for the relevant Template Set to see templates from that Set.
  3. Scroll down to the list of templates. If this is your first time viewing this screen, you should see two templates - an all-purpose template, and a popup template. Click on the ``Edit'' button for the template you wish to edit.
  4. You will be presented with a list of various colors & images that you can edit for the template. These colors and images control how the board looks between the header and footer HTML. Take a look at our Color/Image Guide (http://www.bbv2.com/manuals/colors.bhtml) for details on exactly what each option changes.
  5. To edit the actual header and footer HTML, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Creating a new template

Creating a new template is simple. You can create a template that will only be seen in a specific forum, or only on a certain page, if you so wish. To create a template:

  1. Enter your Admin Area, and click on the ``Edit Templates'' button.
  2. You will be presented with the templates in the Default Template Set. If you have created an additional Set, and wish to add a template to it, choose the ``Edit'' button for the relevant Template Set to see templates from that Set.
  3. Scroll down. You should see a form for adding a new template. Edit or fill in the colors & images, and enter the HTML you would like for the header and footer of the template. Take a look at our Color/Image Guide (http://www.bbv2.com/manuals/colors.bhtml) for details on exactly what each box will change.
  4. If you wish the template to only be active for a certain forum, put a check in the box next to the name of that forum. If you wish the template to only be active when a certain page is viewed, type in the action name for the page in the ``Action'' box. For example, for the who's online: whosonline . For the page to view a thread: viewthread .

Creating a new Template Set

Having different Template Sets allows your users to choose between which design/style they wish to view the board wish. For example, you could have one Set for normal use, and another Set with larger font sizes or brighter color contrasts for visually impaired users.

To create a new Template Set:

  1. Enter your Admin Area, and click on the ``Edit Templates'' button.
  2. Scroll down to ``Add a Set''.
  3. Enter a name for the new Set. This is the name that users will see when they choose which Set they wish to use.
  4. Choose which existing Set you would like the new Set to be a copy of. You can completely edit/delete templates from the new Set later, as you would the Detault Set.
