INSTALLATION - Installing bbBoard v2

Downloading

To download bbBoard v2, you must first purchase or rent a license. You can do this at: http://www.bbv2.com/purchase.boy. When you have a license, you can log in to the client area at http://sf.bbv2.com/. There, you will see options to download the Quick-Install (install-bbBoard.cgi) or the Manual Install (Release Archive) versions.

Quick Install

Quick Install is the recommended method of installation.

• You only have to download and run one small file
  
• It will install everything in the correct place automatically
  
• Provided with a suExec (or similar) environment, it will install any needed Perl modules for you automatically
  

To install by Quick Install:

1. Download install-bbBoard.cgi from your Client Area.
   
2. Upload it to the directory on your server that you want bbBoard v2 to be installed in.
   
3. Set correct permissions for execution (0755, usually), and make sure you have write permissions on the directory.
   
4. Load up install-bbBoard.cgi in your web browser, and follow the prompts.
   

Make sure to delete install-bbBoard.cgi when you've finished!

Manual Installation

To install by Manual Installation:

1. Download the compressed package in your preferred format from your Client Area (Under ``Release Archive'') .
   
2. Upload it to the directory on your server that you want bbBoard v2 to be installed in.
   
3. Decompress the package.
   
4. Set permissions on the following files to allow you to execute them (Normally 0755): bbBoard.cgi, BbWap.boy, BbTelnet-Auth.pl, install-bbBoard.cgi
   
5. Give write permission for config.pl (0644 is fine in a suExec environment, otherwise use 0777 at your own risk). The following files will also need write permission (0644 or 0777) before you begin, but can be reset after the install: bbBoard.cgi BbWap.boy BbTelnet-Auth.pl bbv2api.pm Frontend/MSN/msnnotd.pl Frontend/MSN/msg.pl
   
6. Load install-bbBoard.cgi in your browser and follow the prompts.
   
7. Make sure to delete install-bbBoard.cgi when you've finished!

Upgrading

To upgrade to the latest version of bbBoard v2:

1. Download the file upgrade.cgi from your Client Area.
   
2. Upload it to your bbBoard v2 base directory - the same directory where you'll find bbBoard.cgi.
   
3. Set the permissions on upgrade.cgi to 0755 in your FTP program or on the command line. On a *NIX command line, you can do this with:
   

           chmod 0755 upgrade.cgi

4. Load upgrade.cgi in your browser, and, if prompted, enter the full path to your bbv2 installation.
   
5. Delete the upgrade.cgi file from your server when the upgrade is complete.
